Workbox Moves Chicago HQ to Fulton Market

Chicago-based flexible office start-up Workbox recently announced that it would be moving. The company will be changing its corporate headquarters to 220 N. Green St. in the Fulton Market district of Chicago.

Earlier this year, Workbox signed a long-term lease for a 60,000-square-foot space on the building’s sixth floor that was previously occupied by WeWork. At the time, it represented the third and largest former WeWork location to pass to the hands of Workbox.

Fulton Market was noted to be a remarkably nurturing submarket for small early- and growth-stage businesses, which also makes up the great majority of Workbox’s client base. Per the company’s policy and practice since its founding, the roughly 20 members of the company’s corporate team who will be relocating from North Wabash Street to the Fulton Market space will share the floor with members.

“Fulton Market is a key location for the segment of companies that we work with at Workbox,” said John Wallace, CEO and co-founder of Workbox. “We also believe that the best way to stay connected to the needs of our members is to work elbow to elbow with them, so we’re excited to have found a home where we can grow alongside some of the most dynamic companies in the city.”

With even large companies looking to coworking hubs to accommodate new workforce flexibility policies, Workbox — and the shared office sector, in general — have benefited significantly. Since its start in 2019, the company has grown to 10 locations nationwide, six of which are in Chicago. In June of this year, Workbox secured nearly $18 million in Series A funding, which Wallace hopes will help take that number to 20 nationwide sites throughout the next 18 months.

“After talking to all the major coworking firms in Chicago, we determined that Workbox was the right choice for our historic building in the heart of Fulton Market,” said Bob Wislow, CEO and chairman of 220 N. Green St. owner, Parkside Realty. “Being a Chicago-based, high-touch, hands-on and rapidly growing operator that provides a complete range of flexible workspace services to its members — including a venture fund that agreed to move its own headquarters into our building — sold us that Workbox was our best choice, by far.”

In addition to traditional office space and coworking solutions, Workbox provides members with a platform to connect with access to a wide range of investors, specialists and high-growth businesses across its portfolio.
