As announced last year, Reebok will be leaving its current world headquarters and changing the Canton commercial real estate scene for the Boston market.
A Boston-based CBRE Capital Markets team will be marketing the 65-acre campus in Canton, Mass. on behalf of Reebok and its parent company Adidas AG. CBRE’s Dave Pergola has stated that the asset’s unique design and high quality will serve as major selling points.
“We have been involved with many former headquarters dispositions over the years. The Reebok property in Canton stands out as the most spectacular of them all. Its design is truly forward-thinking. The campus will absolutely attract an owner that will value it as much as Reebok during its stewardship.”
The campus consists of a 518,000-square-foot main headquarters building and several smaller support buildings, two structured parking facilities, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, outdoor tennis courts, fitness facilities, several athletic fields, including a 400-meter Olympic outdoor running track, and a modern childcare center. In total, the property covers roughly 680,000 square feet across four buildings.
Reebok’s new home base will be the Innovation and Design Building in South Boston. The athletic gear maker will occupy about 220,000 square feet on five floors with a two-story, 30,000-square-foot gym with a CrossFit box, a design lab, office space, retail space and a restaurant. Plans announced so far estimate the move will begin in September of this year.
Reebok President Matt O’Toole admitted it was not easy to leave behind such a richly designed campus as the one in Canton, but moving to Boston would allow the company to tap the city’s young workforce and expose the brand to more potential customers. In picking the new location, Reebok looked for a collaborative environment that would allow staff to continue the established company culture and the Innovation and Design hub offers just that.
“One of the aspects that appealed to us was the incredibly innovative culture that is so apparent when you visit the space,” O’Toole said. “I know this environment will inspire our people, and I hope we can inspire those around us, as well.”
The company plans to create a mile-long track around the building. “We have a goal of being the fittest, healthiest workplace in the country, and this new location will go a long way in helping us achieve that goal,” O’Toole added.
