Sweden-based developer Skanska recently announced it was taking on the interior fit-out of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals’ office space in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.
Construction on the project began in March of this year and completion is estimated for July 2021. The $32 million contract is for the interior fit-out of an approximately 200,000-square-foot space, and includes upgrades to the existing building, ceilings and LED lighting, as well as new mechanical distribution, flooring and glass front offices.
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals’ New York Office Space
The property being built out by Skanska is part of Regeneron’s campus at 1 Rockwood Road in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., which the biotechnology company purchased for $50 million in 2016. Formerly known as the New York Life Westchester Campus, the property encompasses nearly 383,000 square feet, and serves as additional office space to support the growth of the company’s central headquarters in Tarrytown.
Regeneron had long occupied the Landmark at Eastview, but just purchased its Tarrytown headquarters in a 2017 deal that marked one of the largest U.S. office sales in the last 20 years. The Landmark contains nearly 1.4 million square feet and is home to the company’s central headquarters operations, as well as research and development activity.
In 2018, the company announced an investment of $800 million over six years, which would include a significant expansion of its operations in Rensselaer County and add 1,500 full-time jobs to the company’s New York state operations. This capital expenditure was intended to secure laboratory renovations and expansion at the Tarrytown campus, as well as add the following to the company’s East Greenbush and North Greenbush facilities:
- a 346,000-square-foot manufacturing center
- a 1,100-space parking garage
- a four-story, 240,000-square-foot science building that would house quality control employees and the process science team
Learning & Innovation in Regeneron’s Hudson Valley Office Space
Regeneron was founded in New York state more than 30 years ago and has grown from 250 to more than 2,500 employees in the last decade alone. Over time, the company has partnered with high-quality New York academic institutions like the University at Albany, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Columbia University and Cornell University on research, internships and recruiting.
Since 2017, Regeneron has been the third sponsor of the country’s oldest and most prestigious science and mathematics competition — Science Talent Search — which awards more than $3 million annually to scholars and schools, rewarding original research and supporting the growth of STEM ranks across the U.S.
In 2018, Regeneron partnered with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to open a DNA Learning Center (DNALC) at its campus in Sleepy Hollow. The DNALC offers hands-on learning to pre-college students from the region — a program that is also aimed at increasing exposure to and encouraging careers in STEM.
Presently, Regeneron is part of the New York state essential workforce that is contributing to the fight against the new coronavirus outbreak. It recently announced advances in its COVID-19 antibody program.
